John and Betty

John was using his computer one evening looking for ways on the internet to speed up his machine. It had been getting slower and slower to turn on, to open his emails and check his share portfolio. John had had enough, he was going to find some way of fixing his computer. Typing 'speed up my computer' into Google had yielded a whole page of useful links. John did some investigating and ran a likely looking tool. The program scanned John and Betty's computer and reported back that it had repaired dozens of problems. Satisfied with himself, John turned off the computer for the night and got ready for bed.... Betty sits in front of the computer sipping her morning cup of tea waiting for her trusty machine to finish warming up. She was planning to start her day by checking her emails and searching for a recipe on the internet. John was tending to his garden when he heard his wife call out to him in a panic. Dropping his trowel he rushed to her side at the computer where Betty was gesticulating at the computer screen. "John what have you done to the computer!" On the screen all sorts of strange windows were still opening advertising things. John replied "It was running very slow last night and I ran a cleaning program I found. It seemed to fix the problem and I went to bed." "What do we do now?!" "Call Paul."
